About Me
Born May 26, 1984 as Garvey Faulknor AKA RED ANTS, in Manchester, Jamaica, RED ANTS currently represents Toronto, Ontario. RED ANTS, named so by family for his innate anger issues, and because he is light skinned he would turn shades of red like the ant, when angered. Being an overly shy child he found creating songs as a way to express his feelings in a more positive light. Musically inclined since he was very young, and surrounded by a church going family that played instruments, he fell in love with music of all kinds. When RED ANTS was 8 years old he played the drums and sang in this church choir, but was often caught daydreaming in his own beats and songs in his head. When challenged by his teacher to then come up with his own song for school, he did so, effortlessly. With such a unique manor of complementing his words, it was then his talents that were realized by his surrounding teachers and peers. With his mother being a Christian, she urged her son to use his talents for God’s work, and not “the devils†music. RED ANTS was always feeling and thinking differently than most and was influenced by Sizzla, Beres Hammond and Capleton, his love for reggae and dancehall music was a natural development lyrically for him. After leading a very troubled youth, RED ANTS arrived as a lone soldier in search of a brighter future in Canada in 2004, settling in Parkdale, Toronto. Having such an eclectic taste in all types of music and being influenced by Mos def, Nas and Jay-z, RED ANTS has created an infused style unlike no other. â€In a world where artists are just fishing for rhymes and words that don’t make senseâ€, RED ANTS creates clarity and realism. A mind with a fortress of songs in so many styles, versatility is what RED ANTS is all about, bringing a suave and hypnotic flow. He offers something for the ladies, for the warriors, something to make you move and something to make you think! Any rapper can put together a catchy hook and spit 16 bars of regurgitated nonsense, but it takes real finesse, swagger and style to construct a new sound in music, which Red Ants has accomplished...
