About Me

born 7 april 1959, lutterworth, leicestershire. first music loves beatles and the stones, put help by the beatles on the juke box many times on holiday in 1965. mum bought me magical mystery tour in 1967. bought holst the planets suite and rossini overtures in late 60s started my affair with classical music. early 70s became a fan of deep purple and started my heavy progressive rock period. got first guitar in 1973 and immediately formed my band band called alloy. in 1976 formed heavy power trio oyster and played many gigs. was already listening to frank zappa, john mclaughlin, miles davis, charlie parker and john coltrane and this was to have a big effect on my playing and my rock days seemed to be over. played in new wave bands commuters, labtechs and flying teeth with guy chadwick ex house of love. the influences of jazz and improvised music ruined my ambition of being a pop star. in 1982 formed jazz rock outfit which featured geoff castle ex ian dury. formed spiel a three piece jazz funk outfit in 1983. zoot suite in 1984 with chris gumbley sax player, then ian ellis on sax. 1985 saw me join a birmingham band called z band with mark fletcher and roger innis and others. 1986 formed passion dance which is still going to this day, essentially a world jazz fusion on nylon string synth guitar, released first recording in 1992 and toured uk and canary islands. new duo played glastonbury festival in 2003 and several festivals two brighton festivals first with poet neil rollinson and second with eric roche guitarist. Ian millican has been duet partner since 1994 and we have a double cd release 2005. re located to brighton in 1988 and started several new projects and played with many great great musicians from larry coryell, savash saka, ian millican, steve howe, frank o shea, tristan banks, simon robinson, charlotte glasson, kevin alexander, geoff holroyde, geoff hearn, joe de jesus, matt holland, mark fletcher, dj sweep and many others. toured brazil in 1997 with band urubu and recorded two cds. released trio release in 1994. joined up with steve howe in 1994 using old yes backdrops for gig in hove, sussex. joined pop band lisa moorish and appeared on mtv in 1996. joined singer billie godfrey and played live gigs in london and elsewhere and recorded with her on her album. have taught in schools and jazz education workshops for over 13 years. have played guitar synth for years using steinbergers and godin guitars and even have fretless guitar synth.
