I was born and raised in a little town called Ceres in California. Just a few miles south of Modesto. My father was a building contractor who became quite prominent in and around central California. Raised out in the country, miles out of town on a huge piece of property. Had the usual. Chickens, pigs, horses, cows, pets. I sang to all of them. They were my audience from ages 3 until 12. Besides the Aunts Uncles and grand-folks plus sisters and brother. My stage was dad's tractor trailor and the fences that kept in the animals. My Uncle called me the little songbird. All that go along with the country vibe. It was a good place to spend my young years. Getting education from the 78's lps and the next generation of singers I so much loved. I was totally into singing like all of them and playing the piano. My name was Sandy Smith of all names.I always had a love for music. Singing for everyone and getting paid for it too. A nickel here, dime or quarter there. Began singing in my church at about 12 years old. Became the star soloist with the Choir. Entered and won contests locally, regionally, nationally.Joined a gospel group that Andre Crouch introduced me to that was looking for a female lead. The president of RCA at the time heard us and then signed us to their label. Had a lot of fun doing that. Did some traveling. Did some more solo stuff. And realized I didn't like living out of a suitcase. But I have done several albums in my life.Did some TV shows. Lawrence Welk of all people as well. But it wasn't my bag. Sang at the Hollywood Paladium and at the Shrine. That was really fun. But, I just really wanted to have a family and be "normal". LOL Got the family but some might not think I am "normal":-)I have 2 beautiful daughters. Both have great talent. But the oldest, Samantha is the only one pursuing her music. She is amazing and writes her own stuff. All She Wrote was the name of her band out here in Riverside. You can get an album. Just contact her. She is Hooksinger on my fiends. Anastasia does some modeling. She has just finished a calendar. She is also one of my first top friends, of course. They are very precious to me.
But they are really "out there" and very much their own person, if you know what I mean. Good kids, though.Phil, my husband, is a producer and engineer. We own and operate Sound Sanctuary recording. Phil also writes for EQ magazine and is moderator for the music forum on Harmony Central. He's also a beta tester. I at times go out and sing BGV's for some of the clients. I write music as well but it has been a while. I am Starting the process of becoming a vocal coach.
