The Dude Has Got No Mercy

About Me

Me? I've been burning the candle at both ends for quite a few years now. I work at Plateau Mental Health in the mobile crisis program. I'm responsible for assessing all the psychotics that end up in jail and all the people who end up at the hospital post-suicide attempt, among other sorts of situations in crisis. I talk to them (or at least try to) and then I either make a determination to send them home or committ them to a psychiatric placement of some sort. Exciting shit, man. I just finished my graduate studies with a degree in Educational Psychology. A week before graduation I thought I was done with school, but now I'm thinking about a specialist degree. I enjoy pain, obviously.

My Interests

Rediscovering inebriation, reading, and just overall enjoying life with friends and family.

I'd like to meet:

You if you're cool, 'cause that's how I roll.

Music:

Ryan Adams, Wilco, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Soul Coughing/Mike Doughty, Interpol, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Soulive, Miles, Coltrane, Hancock, Shorter, The Brian Blade Fellowship. Dismemberment Plan, The Decemberists, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Whiskeytown, Ween, APC, Tool, Afghan Whigs, Alice in Chains, Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Beck, Ben Folds(five), Cake, Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews Band, Elliott Smith, Guster, Hootie and the Blowfish, INXS, Jamiroquai, Jay Farrar, Liz Phair (before she became an industry whore), The Mars Volta, The Midnight Choir, Modest Mouse (even before everyone jumped on the Float On bandwagon), Neil Young, Natalie Merchant, Nickel Creek, North Missisippi Allstars, Oasis, Paul Simon, Pearl Jam, REM, Radiohead, Rage, Roger Alan Wade (check him out), Self, Semisonic, Sigur Ros, Stabbing Westward, STP, Sufjan Stevens, The D, The Verve, Weezer, and a shit tonne of other stuff you've never heard of. One of these days I'll post a comprehensive list of the bands I dig. I'm gonna have to be pretty fucking bored though.

Movies:

It is pretty hard for me to nail down a list of favorite movies because they constantly change. I wax poetic on 300 quite often these days.

Television:

I'm a Discovery Channel whore. I got HDTV service just for Planet Earth. Mythbusters marathons make me happy. Dirty Jobs is awesome. Oh, and I still watch South Park like its my job.

Books:

Just finished Dick Winters' bio, finally. Next up are "How to Think like Leonardo Da Vinci, Dancing at Armageddon, and The Shipping News

Heroes:

My parents, Beth, and anyone with enough dedication to further their education.

My Blog

300

After nearly a year of anticipating 300 in theaters I finally got to see it Monday night.  It was so awesome in fact that I went back again last night.  I've never seen a movie more than onc...

Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac

I'm a Ryan Adams whore.  I make no bones about it.  Until last week I had only really listened to his solo work.  Enter Whiskeytown.  I made my monthly stroll through the local use...

My 11 reasons the Bears should win the Super Bowl

1. Gives me a chance to see the "Manning Face" again. You know the one, the face with the look of extreme disappointment. There could not be a greater gift given to me tomorrow than to see that counte...

The state of radio today.

I don't want to be the elitist asshole here, but how many of you have spent an hour with a rock radio station lately?  I can time my watch to that shitty Hinder song.  In fact I think most r...

Woo! I got a 4.0!

I've been close more times than I can count, but this semester I finally did it.  It contained one of the hardest classes I've ever taken and I still managed a 4.0!  I am so stoked right no...

Elliott Smith (August 6, 1969 October 21, 2003)

Elliott Smith.  A guy most of you probably have never heard of.  Admittedly he had a relatively small but very dedicated following.  Probably the closest he ever came to mainstream star...

Fall/Winter albums

A lot of people have albums that they feel are appropriate for certain times of year.  Some of you probably don't, but should.  Here's what's on my lineup during cold weather.  A bit Al...

Effin' hell. Can I make ONE decision about my career that I will stick with?

So yeah, I absolutely hate getting all serious on Myspace (In a blog, no less, which completely goes against everything I stand for), but I would love some suggestions on what to do here. If anyone i...
