Style: All kinds of progressive music from chillout to breaks to minimal to jungle and more. In a word, music people probably don’t know yet. With catchy rhythm’s, swinging grooves, deep bass-lines and atmospheric soundscapes.
Hey there,
My name is Frank Stolp and I was born on the 4th of April 1983 in Roermond. I play under the dj alias ‘H4L0’. I’ve been around in the local underground party scene for 8 years now. Currently I am working as a volunteer in a pop-centre called De Azijnfabriek, where I started as a barkeeper. Behind the bar I quickly became obsessed by the double cd deck there. I discovered D’nB, Jungle and Trip Hop among other alternative styles from my colleagues. I started to collect music, and at the time I had filled my first cd case I joined the resident dj’s as an all-round dj, playing music from pop to metal to d’nb to oldskool hip hop and all other styles that are played in the underground scene.
When I became an all-round dj I started appreciating dance music and started mixing all kinds of dance remixes of well known popular artists. My motivation was to make people listen to music they were already familiar with, in a different way. Besides that I was exploring all kinds of chilled out music like trip hop, ambient, lounge, nu jazz, acid jazz, experimental, IDM, dub and asian underground and lots of other world music. I played these styles at club nights and when bands in these styles where playing.
In 2003 I discovered minimal house, micro house, electro and techno. I used to (and still do!) search the internet for new developments in these styles. None of my friends where known with these styles. I had to keep this music for myself for 2 years cause there wasn’t yet an event where I could do my thing…
Later on, in 2005 I bought 2 pioneer cdj-1000 mk2’s from a friend for a good price and that was the time I was able to really experiment with the tracks I played, because before I only could practice in the weekends with public. Not the ideal time to try out and experiment as you can imagine!
In the meantime I started to set up some reggae events for De Azijnfabriek since no one was doing that. In 2006, I finally got my own event called Minimalizm for which occasion I booked some local dj’s for low budget prices in order to keep the entrance free, and to give people the chance to get known with these styles.
Finally, in the beginning of 2007 I discovered a style called dubstep which I am quite attracted to. I am still in the process of trying to find out how exactly this style is performed by its quartermakers, because to this day I’ve just been present at one dubstep event! Besides that I am not completely sure what people are expecting. However, by the end of 2007 I hope to set up my first dubstep event together with a good friend of mine.
Well, that about wraps it up! Hope to see you around whilst performing sometimes!
Sincerely, DJ H4L0
