About Me

I love anything to do with computers - I am a true geek.
I've been working on PCs pretty much non-stop for the last 6 years (no, not the same ones, silly!) & "helped" for 6 years before that (looking things up, finding drivers, boring but neccesary stuff). A good chunk of my time is spent trying to clean out other peoples' computers. We warn them about viruses & trojans, but they ignore us until it's too late.
I'll try to think of something more interesting later. This will be my 9th website & there's not that much to say.
------------
Speaking of which, my main website:
Shameless Self Promotion!
---------
Editing the field below, it occurs to me:
The Progression

or, How One Becomes A Subversive
Rod Serling/The Twilight Zone
Take 5
Rocky & Bullwinkle
MAD Magazine
Viet Nam
Flower Power
1968
Robert F. Kennedy
Richard Nixon
The Chicago 8 Conspiracy Trial & seeing the drawings of Bobby Seale gagged & tied to his chair (I was living in the Chicago suburbs at the time, it was a nightly story on the local news).
Mike Royko
Kent State
Watergate
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
The Seventies
The Reagan/Bush years
Clinton's impeachment for not keeping his pants zipped
Bush II (esp. the 2000 election)
Invasion of Iraq (before "mission accomplished" in Afghanistan - Bin Laden's still on the loose).
Actually, it's only through to Vonnegut that I was molded; everything after has just reinforced my beliefs & mis-trust of authority/ government. But, change is good, no? Throw the bums out!
---------------
For a visual representation of what formed my views, here is the original promo film for the song Dialogue, written by Robert Lamm. It is on the classic album Chicago V with a slightly different ending. This is the original according to that great friend of all Chicago fans, ChicagoKid69. Thank you Jamie for allowing us to embed these videos. The images & the powerful lyrics are as pertinent today as they were 35 years ago. It's a damn shame, too.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Dave Brubeck & Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Edit in May 3, 2007: Kurt Vonnegut has died, so that leaves just Brubeck.
-------
Speaking of Dave, a treat from 1961, with the original quartet. There are other performances of "Take Five" on YouTube, but I like this one best. Although Gene Wright (bass) doesn't get much face time or solo time (check out St. Louis Blues by the quartet for some wonderful Gene) & there isn't much Dave to be seen, Paul Desmond (sax) is so wonderful here & Joe Morello (drums) shows the truth of "less is more".

Here's this guy (Paul Desmond, who also wrote the piece) who looks like your dentist playing for the Rotary Club dance night & out comes the epitome of cooool .

Random Thoughts

1) Today is Easter Sunday. I awoke feeling very happy. Partly because it's Easter, but also because it was pouring buckets. I love the rain, I think of it as the life giver. Must be from my years livi...

The Dilemna Dilemma

Reading an article today, I once again saw "dilemna" misspelled as "dilemma". I've seen quite a bit of this lately & decided to do a little 'googling' on the matter. Imagine my shock to have poste...

Meet The New Boss...

At the beginning of 2007, I was asked who I would vote for in the 2008 Presidential election (there were already several declared candidates). I said to ask me in a year/year 1/2. I wasn't going to pa...

Thoughts from During And After Hurricane Ike

First let me start off by saying how grateful I am. You'll note I say that a lot. It's because I just can't get over how fortunate we were/are in this area. Of course it won't stop me from ranting/whi...
