Di Steffano
Di Steffano, age 32 started playing drums at an
early age. Born in
NATAL-RN, Brazil, at 9 years old began his
interest in music. At 10
started performing in schools and stages. Started
his theory and musical
perception studies with pianist Eduardo Taufic, also
studied open courses
with well-known artists such as Pascoal Meirelles, Kiko Freitas,
Gledson Meira and
Robertinho Silva. Parallel to that, Di Steffano
developed reading and
independence techniques by listening to an array of
musical styles of great
drum masters, and following his self taught studies
using theory methods.
Drummer from the Brazilian Northeast region, but
performing all over the
Country, Di Steffano worked with great musicians of
the Brazilian Popular
Music. In the past few years his participation in
the instrumental music
scene has been growing, being part of important
events such as Jazz and
Blues Festival of Guaramiranga-Ceara, Rio das
Ostras- Instrumental, Cascavel
Jazz, Papary Jazz/Natal Brasil, Musifest-
Niteroi/Rio de Janeiro,
Winter Festival of Garanhuns/Pernambuco, Londrina
Jazz/Parana and XI
International Winter Festival of Domingos Martins
/EspiritoSanto.
As a band leader Di Steffano presented his show in
various musical projects.
At the Nacao Potiguar's Project in Natal/Rio Grande
do Norte, he shared the
stage with Oswaldinho of the acordeon. The Banco do
Nordeste Cultural
Center -Fortaleza/Ceara, Oboe Cultural Center –Ceara
and 2nd Music Faire at
Fortaleza Convention Center-Ceara and the units of
SESC , paulista and
Santo Andre in São Paulo are some of the shows
presented recently.
He also recorded and played with some well-known
artists such as João Donato,
Dominguinhos, Geraldo Azevedo, Ze Ramalho ,Claudio
Zoli,
, Sergio
Farias , Max Viana, Daniel Gonzaga, João
Salinas,
Valeria Oliveira, Claudia Amorim, Manasses Campos
and Denilson Benevides
among others.
In the instrumental scene he played with Ricardo
Silveira, Torcuato Mariano , Ney
Conceicão ,
Dino Rangel, Arthur Maia,
Glauton Campelo, Marcelo
Martins, Eduardo
Taufic, Dominic Filon, Jeff Andrews,
Idriss Boudrioua, Alessio Menconi, Eileina Williams e Jeff
Gardner. Currently he has been touring with the Bass
player Arthur Maia and
the Trumpet player Marcio Montarroyos through Brazil
, South Africa and
Europe.
Recently had one of his compositions was chosen for
the compilation CD
"Instrumental Nordeste", a collective of important
jazz work of the
Northeast in 2003. An initiative of SEBRAE /
Northeast and Ceara Music
Faire.
Di Steffano also has been an instructor and
educator. Presenting clinics,
workshops and masterclasses around the country, in
events such as : 1st
Musical Festival of Parnamirim , 2nd Musical Week
of UFMT-Cuiaba-Mato
Grosso and at 11th Winter International Festival of
Domingos
