About Me

I started playing piano at the age of about 2. I picked up on the trumpet at the age of 9. In middle school I gained a huge interest in jazz. From that moment I realized what I wanted to do with my life and I started taking music very seriously. In my sophomore year in high school my jazz band went to New York City for the Essential Ellington competition. It was there that I met Wynton Marsalis and he told me about the start of a new jazz program at The Juilliard School in 2001. My Senior year I auditioned and was 1 of 18 students excepted into the first year of the Juilliard Jazz Studies program. I am now finished with both my undergrad degree and masters degree from Juilliard. I am currently on faculty at the Juilliard school as the rehearsal director for the Jazz Orchestra. I've been playing the trumpet for 16 years. My main focus of performance is in jazz(swing and blues), but I like playing other styles as well: Water Jazz, Battle Jazz, Hip Hop Jazz, Atmosphere Jazz, and anything else that people are calling jazz today. For all those trumpet geeks out there, I play a Bach Stradivarius, 43 Lightweight, Medium Large Horn(Whatever that means).

Sounds Like: I try to gather as much information from as many musicians as possible and let my influences come out naturally. My original compositions are probably mostly influenced by Joe Henderson and early Wayne Shorter compositions. But for the most part I'm influeced by my peers in this music everyday. Using the "sound of the day" while still maintaining elements of rhythm, harmony and melodic concepts of jazz.
