About Me

Dan Moore

is a frequent flyer in the vast universe of percussion. He has been caption head of a top twelve DCI drum corps; waited patiently to coax dulcet tones from a triangle while sitting in the back of an orchestra; and played drumset in styles ranging from jazz to country and Dixieland to calypso. He performs as a keyboardist, hand percussionist, and plays “new music” as a multi-percussionist. But his musical heart truly lies in the "fruity" sounds of the marimba and the "shimmering" tones of the vibes.
He has carved out an artistic niche, both as a soloist and as a collaborator with creative friends who believe as he does that music is a source of joy in life. He continues to work with a variety of musicians from around the world embracing many musical styles. Dan’s music has been described in a review as having “a musical spirit that lifts the soul.”
His work as percussion area head and professor of music at The University of Iowa is a source of much gratification because of his wonderful and creative students.
He is a national performing artist for the Yamaha Corporation of America, a signature mallet artist for Innovative Percussion, and an Educational Board member for the Latin Percussion Music Group (LP). He endorses Sabian cymbals and Grover triangles and tambourines, and is a member of the Zendrum 21st Century Techno-tribe.
Dan and his wife travel the world whenever possible to avoid working on their charming old house.

Here is a little something from me to all the hopeless romantics out there. Mancini's timeless classic, Moon River. This was recorded live in April 2008 for a UITV program. I really enjoy not knowing how these things are going to turn out from performance to performance. I hope you enjoy this little snapshot.
