LAYING DOWN THE FUNK!

About Me

The year was 1963. The Beatles had recorded their first album in Britain, “Please, Please Me” and had scored a number 17 hit with “Love Me Do” and a number 1 hit with the title track to their first LP! Across the pond in the USA, the country was in the safe and capable hands of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and in Des Moines, IA – a monster was born! One who would grow up to become one of the top 5 bassists in the local region. As he grew, Tom’s love of music grew. Appropriately, Paul McCartney was Tom’s first influence. Tom learned the basics of the instrument as well as how to play supporting melody on the instrument. Then after discovering the band Grand Funk Railroad, Tom become empowered by the muscular bass lines Mel Schacher was laying down. As Tom reached the 80’s he discovered many of the funk and jazz bassists who ruled the airwaves of the times as well as one bassist who ruled the local music scene of the time, the late great Ed Eaves. Having all of these influences Tom is not only a superior bassist, but he is a well-rounded and defined one as well. Whether it be a ¼ note onslaught or the stinkiest funk possible Tom is more then capable! Be sure to catch Tom in the area playing in his band “Hissy Fit Gypsy” with friends Lance Harrison (guitar-vocals) and Gary Perfect (drums-vocals).
