In just over 30 years, Daniel Baeder has accomplished more than some musicians have ever dreamed of. Born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1978, it wasn't long before the artistically-infused city made an impression on him, and by the age of nine, Daniel had begun his journey into the world of music. Since then, he has become an internationally recognized drummer, musician, producer and arranger - performing in premier venues all over the world. Daniel's love for music enables him to perform various genres - from Drum and Bass and Jazz, to Brazilian Country and Samba, to a Fusion of everything! But no matter what style of music he's playing, he is always sure to add his own personal touch to the sound.
Daniel's musical ability recently earned him a place on tour with the Emmy-award winning "Cirque Du Soleil", an world-renown traveling circus based on circus arts and street theater that showcases original music and special effects, from 2009 to 2010. But before he finishes his North American tour with Cirque Du Soleil, he is planning the release of two solo albums in addition to his previous release of 2006 - one in Brazilian instrumental music, and the other in electronic music. Keep an eye out for further information on the upcoming release of these CDs.
Long before the days of Cirque Du Soleil, Daniel was raised in the bustling city of São Paulo, and began studying music theory, bass, drums and piano at the Espaco Musical school with the likes of musicians Duda Neves, Zé Pedro, and Marcelo Migg. But it was at the Instituto de Bateria Vera Figueiredo, studying under critically-acclaimed drummer Vera Figueiredo, that Daniel quickly decided to make the drums his instrument of choice - a decision well made.
By the early age of 14, he was already teaching drums and music theory at the Harp Som music school, while also making a name for himself playing locally. Only one year later, Daniel was invited to participate in an international, well-respected Brazilian drum festival called the "Batuka! International Drum Festival". He also contributed a song for Batuka!'s first festival CD - not only playing drums, but also programming the keyboards and playing the bass as well!
At 18 years old, Daniel was invited by a world-renown Brazilian bassist, Celso Pixinga, to join a jazz trio called "the PXP", performing at the Sanja Jazz Bar in his native São Paulo. Around the same time, Daniel's skills were so recognized by the music industry that he was invited to endorse the Premier Drum and Sabian Cymbal drum equipment by Pride Music (the distributor of these brands at that time). He proudly represented both companies for four years! Daniel's journey then took him to join the band "O Terço", contributing to their "Sprial Worlds" CD and a national Brazilian tour. After leaving O Terço, Daniel was asked to perform with artist Flávia VirgÃnia, contributing to her CD "Livro Mãe", and working with her for four years. In 1998, Daniel could not resist the chance to move to Tokyo, Japan to study with legendary jazz drummer, Tommy Campbell.
Upon his return from Tokyo, Daniel began a home studio business where he recorded more than 20 independent albums, cementing his stature as not only a musician - but also as an arranger and producer. He resumed his work with Flávia VirgÃnia, and always keeps busy by playing with other well-known artists, more recently playing with Brazilian artists, Max Fairbanks and Luiza Possi. His work has earned him recognition from some of the most-respected industry publications such as Modern Drummer, Cover Batera and Rock Brigade.
In 2006, Daniel took his turn on a solo album and released "Abradna a Raiva", a Brazilian instrumental CD on which he played drums, arranged, produced and played piano, and even picked up a bass for some of the songs! He toured throughout Brazil with this album, and the culmination of his hard work and talent earned him a distribution deal with Mar Creation for USA, Europe and Japan.
Never a man to sit still, Daniel is constantly on the move fulfilling his love of music. With a spot on a North American tour and not one - but two CDs on their way - there's sure to be a whole lot more from Daniel Baeder in the future! Please check back here for updates on Daniel!
