When 19 years old, Eric May started work as a promoter in the ‘in’ club (3***) in Düsseldorf. The lifestyle obsessions behind the club fascinated him from the very beginning and sparked his interest in house music. House DJs like Roger Sanchez, Eric Morillo, Axwell, Michael Gray and the past resident DJ of 3***, Kurd Maverick shaped him in different ways and are responsible for his growing passion of house.
After this, it was just a matter of time until Eric May had his first experience on the turntables. This occurred next door, in the club MK2. A former friend and resident DJ of MK2, Patrick D, explained all the main steps and let him DJ a few times during the week. Fascinated by the limitless possibilities of the turntables, especially when combined with a mixer, Eric May integrated himself more and more into unknown material, practising until finally he had the skill it took to become a DJ.
In 2006 Eric left 3***, to prepare himself for his graduation. At this time he also made his first exploration into music production. That summer Eric bought his first DJ equipment, comprising of 2 Pioneer CDJ-200 Player and one DJM-400 2 Channel Mixer.
It was also at this point of time that Eric May created his first compilation, which he passed on to friends and acquaintances under the name "Stars & Vibes."
It was meant to be only for friends and family, however word of Stars & Vibes spread so quickly to other people, that Eric May decided to mix another compilation. In the winter of 2006 the Stars & Vibes Compilation Vol. II was released in Düsseldorf, which soon reached a cult status. This success led to Eric May being booked by many different clubs.
On November the fourth of 2006, Eric and a DJ friend celebrated their first official performance in front of 800 students. Since then, Eric has proved himself in numerous nightclubs, such as MK2, Nachtresidenz, Buddha Bay, Sams Club, Mandalai, Peaches & Cream and the Monkey’s Club. A good example of his success is that he returned to the MK2 on the 24th of November, this time to produce his own music on the turntables.
On the 16th of January 2007 in MK2, Eric May DJed with Stefan Bock under the synonym DJ Arthur. Despite this, Eric has been known under many different names such as: Stars & Vibes, Jack Davis, DJ Vibes and DJ Arthur. In 2007 he settled on Eric May. However, the name Stars & Vibes still remains in his compilations and is to be removed in the future.
In 2009, the DJ and future producer Eric May will be focusing on music production, and aiming for a contract by Indi-Label.
Eric May is definitely one to keep in consideration for the future. Watch out for his forthcoming work & stay tuned.
