MySpace EditorWelcome to Wildlife Australia!! I love animals; all animals, but Australian Wildlife holds a special place in my heart. Probably because it's so unique and diverse; you won't find most of the wildlife anywhere else in the world. 90% of fish and insects, 93% of Amphibians, 89% of Reptiles and 83% of mammals in Australia are exclusivly native to the country. Also did you know that Australia is the only place that is a country, continant and island all in one? Australias bio-diversity is explained by it's long period of isolation from the rest of the World. When Pangia (old Earth - the land form before it broke up to form the Earth today) broke apart; Australia went south alone and the Animals evolved very differently. I have been to Australia and even the Crow's are bigger! If you are an animal lover this site should hopefully be a refreshing insight into wildlife in Australia.

Steve Irwin; one of the leading voices on conservation in Australia and the whole World past away in september of 2006 after being pierced through the heart by a Stingray barb. Only 17 people in the World were known to have died this way. The accident occured off the Coast of Port Douglas in Queensland, Australia. Steve was filming Ocean's Deadliest but after some bad weather decided to film some shots for a show his daughter, Bindi, was hosting. What is thought to have occured is that he swam above the Stingray casting a shadow on its back and the Ray reacted to protect itself; unfortunatly fatally wounding Steve. He will never be forgotten, he was my hero and many other people can say the same. He is a true legend and his spirit will carry on through his family. Bindi Irwin is set to host many of her own shows, I've seen her on TV and she is so much like her Dad; not just the resemmblence but her attitude and character. She lives for Animals; An Irwin through and through. Below is a video in memory of Steve Irwin's life and to Bindi Irwin who will carry on his legacy In Memory of Steve Irwin

THE MOST DEADLY SNAKE IN THE WORLD! THE INLAND TAIPANINLAND TAIPAN or Fierce Snake is the most deadliest snake in the World; a single bite contains enough venom to kill 100 human beings (thats 750 times more venomous than the Indian Cobra!). The Fierce Snake is brown in colour, ranging from a rich, dark hue to a brownish olive-green (depending on season); they adapt to their environment by changing the colour of the skin during seasonal changes. Fierce Snakes tend to be lighter in summer and darker in winter. On average the Inland Taipan is 2 meters long but larger specemins have been discovered. It preys on small rodents and even though it is considered the most venemous snake inthe world; there have never been any human fatalities, all have been treated with anti-venom.THE AUSTRALIAN ICON; THE KANGAROOKANGAROO - Did you know there are 63 living species of Macropodidae; a marsupial family that defines a Kangaroo? But usually the term Kangaroo is reserved for the Red kangaroo, the Antilopine Kangaroo and the Eastern and Western Grey Kangaroo. Now this is 'THE' symbol of Australia; it is featured on currency, the Coat of Arms and is used by many Australian companies such as the well known Quantas Airways. The red Kangaroo is the rarest of them all; measuring up to 2 meters tall it inhabits the centre of Australia. The Eastern Grey Kangaroo is actually the most common and it inhabits the Eastern part of Australia. The Western Grey Kangaroo is found in the southern part of Western Australia, South Australia near the coast, and the Darling River basin and finally the Antilopine Kangaroo; it is similar to the Grey Kangaroo but resides in the far North of Australia. In the past, explorers have described Kangaroo's as a mix between Frogs and Deers; having the head of a Deer and the legs of a Frog. You may thing that hopping is an awkward means of getting around; but the Kangaroo has mastered it and they can travel up to 16 miles per hour. They are the only animal to use hopping as a way of locomotion. Hervivorous and many nocturnal they usually sleep during the day to avoid the high temperatures of the Australian sun.

Steve Irwin: My Tribute

I decided last night to pay my respects to Steve Irwin by immortalising him in a drawing. I decided to do him in a classic pose; wrestling a crocodile. Not highly original but I wanted to do it. ...
