The Gypsy Crims are a Melbourne based trio performing all original Flamenco guitar compositions.Orlando is a self taught guitarist who composes all original flamenco guitar music with an experimental approach. He is inspired predomenantly by the gypsy Flamenco artists of Spain and by the music of the arab world. Orlando is also an accomplished Oud player and this has heavilly influenced the way he plays the flamenco guitar and his compositon. He is currently recording his first solo album which will also feature his Oud playing and other Melbourne Flamenco artists.Michael Kontachristos accompanies Orlando on the cajon and is one of the worlds finest percussionists, and currently teaches at the Victorian College of the Arts. Michael's unique and exciting style of percussion is based on Middle Eastern techniques whilst staying true to the Flamenco artform.Juan Martinez Ortega has joined forces with the Crims recently and is renowned for his clean technical flamenco guitar playing whilst holding onto the reins of the fastest flamenco picado in Australia. Juan comes from a long line of flamenco artists from Andalucia, Spain. Juan will be performing in all major performances as of August 2009 and as a special guest on Orlando's first Guitar Album (set to release in October 2009)Represented by MultiCultural Arts Victoria, they have performed at the Arts Centre of Victoria and the Malt House Theatre.The Gypsy Crims are available for corporate and private functions and can accomodate all needs, allowing up to an 8 piece.
