Chris Wilson: ChameleonThere is neither limit to the scope of Chris Wilson, nor any boundaries to his musical style – something to which Chris attributes from his impressionable years growing up in the UK.
If it was happening there, the young Chris was in it up to his gelled Mohawk. Electronic Rock, Punk, Ska and New Wave overwhelmed his musical mind, leading to a keen nose for diverse and unique beats. This then set a path of deconstruction, as Chris explored new jack, hiphop, garage and underground house. This appreciation for musical multiplicity has certainly lead to an open and compromising attitude of acceptance; a trait that is the mainstay of Chris’ professional ethic.
Touted as a musical chameleon who transforms and adjusts according to his crowds, Chris Wilson behind the decks is profound. With a sweeping matrix concentrated on unique beats, Chris’ artistry is always apparent as he moulds and blends in an assorted of aural colours and delights. His receptive approach to music has lead to some rather tasty gigs alongside many reputable names – from Roger Sanchez, to Armand van Heldon, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Derrick Carter, Chez Damier, Mark Farina, Phi Asher, Steve Mac, Paul Harris, Tom Novy and Erick Morillo to name a few. Chris’ performances with this mixed list are a credit to his varied musical methods, and also an acknowledgement to his aptitude and flair in pre-empting and drawing attention to the latest trends.
While his love for the decks is certainly apparent, nowhere else does the name of Chris Wilson evoke more respect and reverence than it does from the fervent members of the Dance community. Chris’ valuable insight into the scenes behind the music extends to the clubbing depths of Australia’s Number 1 club venue ‘Family’ Nightclub after cutting his teeth in managing The Empire and PressClub. Chris attributes his triumphs to his diversity.
“A DJ needs to adapt with the times to ensure longevity in their career; you need to create your own empire.â€
Chris has hosted segments on Brisbane B105, pushing dance music into the commercial ears, as well as his own show ‘House 2 House’ on DJ World Radio. Chris has also released a mix CD with Syke and SugarStarr; part of his personal commitment towards producing his own music and getting it out there.
With a future firmly focused on producing more tracks, touring more and sharing the love, Chris is also intent on establishing The Family brand as a strong name in the Australian Dance Music Scene and has recently won Best club night at the DMA’s - 4 years in a row.
