Raised in Miami by way of Cuba, Spanish rapper MC Mafia has had his share of setbacks. The 90 miles between his native country and South Florida couldnâ€™t have been any further. Born Rodolfo Reyes, MC Mafia lived in Santiago de Cuba with his family, struggling to get by. With very little to eat and even less to live for, Mafia fled the country at 12 years old, searching for a better life. Not knowing what to expect, the next few years were spent proving his self to the bullies who would criticize his accent, social status and musical taste.??Inspired by the true life stories of American rappers, MC Mafia found himself in Hialeah Miami Lakes High School hallways rapping about the only thing he knew: the â€˜hood, the ghetto, West Hialeah. Soon after, he became entangled with the streets, doing what he could to survive. With no where left to go, he turned to the man in crisp dress blues: the US Marine Corps recruiter.??Fighting for the opportunity to become one of the few and the proud, Mafia was forced to prove that he was worthy. History had caught up to him and Florida state congress questioned his character. After months of battling for the privilege, he was allowed to enlist. In a short time, he would ship off to basic training; 13 weeks that would change his life forever.Upon successfully completing basic training and moving past infantry school, he would be stationed 3,000 miles away from home in San Diego, CA. This is where things took a turn and Mafia was introduced to Manuel Ramos, a fellow Marine and musician. The two quickly became friends and business partners. Playing the roles of producer and manager, Ramos coordinated the creating and release of two albums.The 12 Month Theory (2006) and Cuban Linked (2007) helped to establish MC Mafia as a top contender in Spanish rap.During Mafiaâ€™s second tour in Iraq, he wrote and recorded Back At It Again. The album, set to release in late 2008, served as a way to relieve the stresses of war.Fresh off the seven month deployment, MC Mafia is putting the finishing touches on his album and preparing for what lies ahead.Back at it again.
