About Me

Started in November of 2006, The Moderna Complex came together for the purpose of playing a show with Sole of the Anticon collective in a warehouse in Oakland. The first three songs were variations of projects vocalist JC Haydon had created in Pro Tools while living and working in Southern California. Upon being offered the show, and tired of performing Hip Hop over beats on a CD, Haydon asked some talented friends who happened to be unaffiliated with any other projects at the time to flesh the songs out and make them their own. Joe Fowler whom had previously worked in Setacide with Haydon was the first on board. After speaking with Fowler and Haydon at a bar in Gilroy, Lorenzo Chavarria who had recently split ways with Night at the Apollo accepted the invitation to a jam session. Jaime Curiel , who had last been on stage with Kneel Before Zod , had been working on electronic music composition with Haydon and Fowler, and after a recording session, agreed to lend his guitar playing prowess to the process of preparing for the Oakland show. To round out the project, Kneel Before Zod Drummer Christian Holland acclimated himself to the unfamiliar instruments of guitar and synthesizers with surprising creative agility. After eleven practices, the show was a success, and over the course of the following months, the musicians decided to continue pursuing creative expression together. After successful shows in Cupertino and at the VooDoo Lounge in downtown San Jose, in April of 2007, Christian and Jaime left TMC to pursue other creative opportunities.
Serendipitously, an old friend who had been doing some soul searching changed his life direction at the same time. Moving in with Fowler and Haydon in Gilroy, Daniel Christensen made his debut with TMC at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz in May of 2007. Christensen brings a distinct style of often heavy, sometime percussive, and always melodic guitars to the album of material and live show TMC is developing. Having written and performed music with Fowler and Haydon for over a decade (in PRODUCT and Setacide ) his merging with the project is seamless and lends a limitless creative agency and a wealth of audio engineering experience to the bands' efforts. Currently in preproduction for a full-length that fuses the pulse and aesthetics of hardcore with the avante garde expressionism of chillout electronica and progressive rock, the project emanates a catchy sensibility that can only come from an eclectic mix of seasoned veterans of the California music scene. The Moderna Complex releasd a two song demo documenting the lead up to the Sole show in February of 2007. Currently playing select Bay Area shows to test their new material, The Moderna Complex is poised to launch a fully developed live show and full length album in late 2007.

"How can cosmic religious feeling be communicated from one person to another, if it can give rise to no definite notion of a God and no theology ? In my view, it is the most important function of art and science to awaken this feeling and keep it alive in those who are receptive to it." Einstein, A. : "Religion and Science", New York Times Magazine , 9 XI 1930.

...all possible revelations are nothing but poetical elucidations, suggestions, hints and metaphors, but not statements of fact or propositions with a truth claim.
Poetry does not measure and explain the truth, it lives it.
And living the truth can be a sublime example of excellence, but not a decisive organ for knowing how to exist on Earth in harmony with the Divine.
Poetry is never directive, never coercive.
...we are left with self-commitment and the development of the proper spirit of finesse waiting with full expectancy for the marvelous to happen.
- Wim van den Dungen (2005)
Sounds Like: meta-rationality and reason are stages in the genetico-cognitive development of the cognitive apparatus, the former being a high-order texture based on stable low-order distinctions or rational categorizations.
