About Me

The Recording Institute of Detroit is a state licensed trade school specializing in recording and music production. All of RID's instructors are graduates of the school and are knowledgeble as well as experienced in the subject matter they teach. The Recording Institute of Detroit has been operating as a recording arts trade school in music and audio production for over 30 years and constantly updates its programs and facilities to teach the latest techniques and technology. Whether you are seeking training to make better home recordings, become a professional recording engineer or producer, release and market your own music, or perform any of the many functions in the music and audio fields, RID can be the right school for you.

RID is located on 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe, Michigan.

    School History
RID was established in 1974 by current school Administrator Robert Dennis, a legendary mastering engineer for Motown Records in their heyday who continued on doing mastering and engineering work for songwriting team Holland Dozier Holland.

If you live near southeast Michigan come take a tour at the Recording Institute of Detroit. There you can see the facilities and equipment, hear what the courses and programs have to offer, meet with an instructor and an administrator, and ask any questions about the school that you have.

TOUR HOURS ARE: Mon-Thurs: 12 PM - 6 PM Fri: 11 AM - 2 PM Sat: 11 AM - 2 PM Sun: no tours

A tour takes about 1 hour. If you would like to schedule a tour either call us at (586) 779-1388 or send us a message with your phone number and the date and time that suits you best to take a tour as well as 2 alternates in case the time you chose is unavailable.
