Neil Stout

The Lama & The Silverman.Neil Stout and Andy Povall have remained solid friends since they first met in a damp rehearshal room in Manchester UK. Neil, Geoff Griffith (Black Widow fame) and Dave Goodwin had been writing and recording in the band TIBET for a couple of years when Neil was approached to provide the musical backing for a theatre group performing at the Melkveg (Amsterdam) The band as it was then had no permanent keyboard player and the manager of the theatre group disappeared saying he might know where to find one. He returned later with Andy in tow. I don't think Andy ever went home again. NNEIL: "I have always had this massive empathy with Andy and just love what he does. We have been together in a variety of projects over the years - Tibet, Exit21, The Titanics, Feelabeelia, SkaBOOM etc. So after my dice with the surgeons knife and my celebration of achieving 50 years on this spinning rock it seemed fitting that we should get together and produce Kathmandu. Kathmandu is an escapist title for a series of tribute songs penned with thanks to the musicians that have had such an influence on my life.Kathmandu has been received very well and I am so glad that it has brought so much pleasure to those who have had time to listen. For me. I have been taken on a journey of self discovery and it has opened up parts of me that I thought were long dead. The kindness of so many people I have met thru' this album and myspace is extraordinary. Thankyou.Ok, now, 18 months on and a new album 'Moving Mountains' is very near completion. This is a different type of voyage...... one deep into the darkest parts of your/my soul. It is an album, I suppose, I never wanted to make....... but had to as it tears at the the things we all fear in ourselves .....loss .....insecurity ...anger ....insanity ....mortality. As the album nears completion I find myself falling thru' a hole into darker places and to be honest will be glad when it is finished and I can burst back into light and colour.
