______________________________________"Aura Trio, with a decidedly rare instrumentation
of Silvia Infascelli on vocals, Fabrizio Trullu on piano and Mr. Stefano Profeta on guitars, tabla, and sitar. There is no weak link in this group. Silvia has great intonation, the ability to scat convincingly
in a modern vein, and a kind of musical relationship to some of the Brazilian vocalists such as Flora Purim and Astrud Gilberto—with purity of tone and phrasing. Mr. Trullu plays a piano style that has some similarities to Ralph Towner on that instrument—it is not strictly out of Bop, in other words. Trullu combines the folksiness
of Towner with some of the technical-harmonic traits of Chick Corea. Stefano’s guitar can sound a little Abercrombiesque and even sometimes related to Jerry Garcia in tone and note choice. He plays quite good tablas and a decent sitar as well.
There are many highlights on the album, but I will mention only a few. “I Believe†has a strong melody, a Samba feel, and some tasteful guitar lines and vocal scats. “High Cry†features some lovely fugal improvising between guitar and piano. “Uim ubbab a†has some fine music. It’s in five and tablas, vocals and piano contribute equally to the musicality of the piece. It’s lyrically melodic without being at all vapid. For a final example, there is “Il Canto di Davide,†a jaunty sort of thing on piano and tabla in five. Nicely phrased worldless vocals come in and make it all good.
These pieces and their improvisations show a fine feel for polyrhythms
without sounding especially ethnic and without directly evoking the Indian classical sound. It is a surprising entry that ravishes
while remaining intrinsically rewarding to the most demanding of musical ears."
