Basarab was my brainchild. I created it to manifest my vision of combining baroque style composing with the sound of extreme metal. Encouraged by Fabian from german Metal Band Odium Immortalis, the first Demo "Pride of Older Times" was created 2003. Equipment was near to none, the guitar recordings played by Fabian had to be exchanged via Internet. Most of the material was loop-based with poor recording conditions. However the song structures, despite repetitiveness, turned out more complex and sophisticated in harmonic composition compared to most low budget metal demos i was aware of at the time, so the project was continued with a Split Demo with Odium Immortalis in 2004.
Difficult private situations hindered progress of the project, which still have to be overcome and won't be overcome in the near future. However, new courage and inspiration led to the recording of "Reconciliation"; the almost-finished-in 2007 Demo which might be released in 2009, this time with Basarab as a real one-man-project. All instruments were played by myself, which allows to get rid of the loop-based songwriting and makes a more fluid and dynamic composition process possible.
