Michigan AFL- CIO

Working people everywhere unite!

About Me

A Little Bit of History: The Michigan State AFL-CIO was formed in 1958 with the merger of two organizations: the state American Federation of Labor and the Michigan Congress of Industrial Organizations. Initially the Michigan State AFL-CIO headquarters was in Detroit, but it was moved to Lansing in 1969. The present headquarters, at 419 Washington Square South in Lansing, was dedicated in 1977. By joining unions workers receive better benefits, wages, job security, as well as protection against discrimination. We organize to win elections and lobby congress in order to advocate for working people. We also seek to help all those in need in the larger Michigan community through our partnership with the United Way and other non- profits. But most importantly, our goal is to fight for economic and social justice for working people. For more details and up to date info take a look at the official Michigan AFL- CIO website at http://www.miaflcio.org/And the national AFL- CIO website at www.afl-cio.orgA good page on Labor Union culture http://www.laborarts.org

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Union members who seek to form a stronger and more democratic workers union. Unorganized workers who desire the fairness, safety and dignity in the workplace that only a union can provide. Individuals and organizations from all over the world who are motivated by a desire to form a collaborative movement and common vision for economic and social justice.Noam Chomsky Interview By Zach De La Rocha
