Project Firesquid

Project Firesquid was born during numerous jam sessions. Oli, Jens, and Stephan have been jamming and recording together for over eight years now. Jens and Stephan met in 1993 in a band that was once known as Yell of Rage, and have been best friends ever since. In 1995, Oli came into the picture when he met Stephan at a studio session in Stuttgart, Germany. Since they both understood immediatly that they have the perfect chemistry, it wasn't long until the first jam session came along, eventually bringing all three together. The purpose of those sessions has never been anything other than musical communication, to translate moments in time into music. However, as soon as the concept of recording found its way into their rehearsal room, they haven't been able to stop recording whatever possible. Be it the taping of a session on an old-fashioned walkman, going on to minidisc and a 12-track video format, or eventually software-based recording, they had the need to capture those moments and develop them further. Being physically seperated most of the time -Stephan lived first in New Orleans, now in Nicosia, Cyprus; Jens and Oli both live in Germany, Stuttgart and Sindelfingen respectively-, songs are also written individually, and then passed on to the others via electronic and snail mail. With their no-rules attitude, the creative energy is allowed to flow in any direction, mirroring their various and different influences. Accoustic-based songs, heavily distorted guitars, accordeon-based tango, and experimental music go hand in hand - there are no limits.
