Around a year ago, Ryder Clack earnt the privilege of being lent by his Grandmother (Ruth Stark - Piano Prodigy), her Casiotone CT-360. This gesture re-ignited Ryder Clack's love and passion for the keys (tragically many years before, he retired from the piano). He didn't remember how to play and so the lengthy and strenuous process of teaching himself began. Ryder Clack would sit in his bedroom for hours each night pushing notes together to form chords that sounded good to him, and from then on, the song writing began.
Ryder Clack's brother generously gave him opportunities to perform smaller scale gigs infront of he and his little stoner friends. All the tracks were instrumental as Ryder Clack didn't have the confidence to be able to sing. Eventually though, he was empowered by his closest friends to have the self belief that he could sing. From then on, even more creativity began to flow and Clack Train was in motion.
And so, now the Clack Train is a collective of vocal acrobats, sexy jazz sax and a beaten 80’s Casio keyboard with a mind of its own. Fronted by none other than the androgynous and eccentric Ryder Clack. With a sound derived from experimental, avant-garde music of the 70’s, the unconventional methods create slightly obnoxious yet catchy songs. Influenced by David Bowie, Brian Eno and John Cale, with the ghost of the late Syd Barrett as a guiding spirit throughout the confrontational and honest set.
The Clack Train Choir is a colourful trio of characters with personality to match their costumes. There is the seductress Simone recently out of a short stint in rehab. Also, Checkpoint Charlie, former hip-hop prodigy and occasional co-writer, and finally the effervescent and very German, Regine Von Schneider. And then, how can you forget Matteush, (former polish potato farmer) the experimental guitar effects expert and percussionist. Newest member, Sans-Art provides psychedelic, improvisational saxophone which is the icing on the Clack Cake.
The Clack Train will make you want to kick each band member in the head while at the same time, smother them with loving kisses. Whether it scares you, or turns you on a little (the music that is, not Ryder Clack’s skin tight velvet jumpsuit), The Clack Train will make you feel like you’ve never felt before.
And special thanks to Sunni Hart (manager, costume/set designer, wife) to make this page colourful and stuff...
