I am here for Networking

About Me

Soy, Regina Chavez y Sanchez. Esposa y companera of Trinidad Sanchez, Jr., THE Chicano poet. My beloved husband died July 30, 2006. I currently live in Denver, but travel between Colorado, Texas and Michigan. I have set up a charitable foundation, The Trinidad Sanchez Memorial Foundation, dedicated to education of young Chicanos & Chicanas. I am working with the URBAN SCHOLARS with the Byrne Foundation. We focus on scholarships and mentoring Chicanos & Chicanas to go to private high schools, which focus on college prep., too many of our children quit school and end with lost dreams and hope.I am finalizing the transfer of Trino's archives to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where they will be available at the Texas Institute of Culture. It is a critical step in Chicano's writing our own history instead of having someone else write it for us.Trino will have two new books coming out in 2008 and 2009. The final book published before he passed is "Jalapeno Blues".My blessing is a close strong famliy that love and support each other throughout everything life deals. My special anti-depressants are my granddaughter, Anissa, my godson, Joseph and nephews, Jacob and James, they are my angels. MySpace Layouts provided by ProfileGoodies.com

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Any Chicanos/Chicanas and people of color online. Especially poets and other artists. I've learned alot about archiving. If you have interest in writing your own history, please contact me and I will share everything I've learned. But, remember maintaining good records is essential. Copies of every show you do, every draft of every song or score you write. Many institutions ask us to donate our archives. Sometimes we have to just to keep our history alive, however, always keep in mind they won't ask Robert Bly or Maya Angelou or Oprah to donate anything. They PAY for their histories, why should ours be less valuable? If you cannot sell them there are Chicano archives to give them to.
