About Me

Jazz Queensland is a key service/presenter organisation, dedicated to promoting and presenting, live jazz and contemporary improvised music in Queensland Jazz Queensland is a peak, non-profit incorporated association, administered by the Queensland Government through its Office of Fair Trading. Jazz Queensland was originally the Jazz Co-ordination Program of Queensland est 1983 and officially became an association in 1996.
Jazz Queensland events provide a forum for innovation and also a platform for presenting national and international artists. At the same time, engage our vast community of artists, audiences, venues, businesses, promotors, media and educators.

What We Do
1. The Valley Jazz Festival
This multi-venue event cements Fortitude Valley as the hub of live entertainment in Brisbane by showcasing the most compelling and innovative accomplishments in jazz and creative improvised music.

2. We co-present with other major arts based organizations to contribute to a healthy arts community, such as the Brisbane Festival 2006 .
3. Regular Performance Events
We organise regular, high quality jazz presentations such as the monthly, Jazz Singers' Jam Night @ Belushi's which gives local artists the opportunity to practice their live performance skills.
4. We offer membership benefits such as discounts to Jazz QLD sponsored events and discounts with our corporate partners.
5. We facilitate grant applications for individual musicians by providing advice and formal support where appropriate. Jazz QLD also coordinates submissions for larger jazz activities falling within its mission statement.
6. We also produce and distribute our monthly Jazz Qld e-news edition and Gig Guide for free to the wider community.

Band Members: Management Committee:

All positions on both the Management and Advisory Committees are filled with financial members of Jazz Queensland, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting AGM.

The committees are made up of musicians and other industry stakeholders. The management structure is comprised of three parts: the Management Committee, the Advisory Committee and the Marketing and Development Officer for Jazz Queensland.

The Management Committee has four voluntary positions:

Act. Vice Pres - Lynette Irwin *
Secretary - Louise Denson
Treasurer - Rõhan Somasekaran
* Lynette and Andrew are filling these interim roles untill the 2007 AGM. Lynette is standing in for the former President Kirsty van der Plas, whom is relocating to Victoria.

The Management Committee is guided in its decision making by the Advisory Committee, which has six voluntary positions.

Jazz Queensland's sole paid position is that of Marketing and Development Officer, Jim Budd

Influences: Our Mission - Jazz Queensland

    To foster a strong and artistic Jazz life in Queensland by promoting development and public access to jazz. In general to work for the furtherance of jazz activity and its public support. To foster the presentation of high quality performances of jazz including performers engaged with the development of original material and indigenous based jazz styles and to encourage the development of audience participation and support for such performances. To seek and expand performance opportunities for jazz artists by way of further investigation and extension of venues, clubs and festivals. To encourage and assist young people and women in jazz by presenting appropriate role models. To be free of gender bias. To maintain and make available an information base about jazz act ivies and musicians in Queensland. To promote, publicise and educate about jazz through use of media and direct presentation. To increase networks. To assist in the application of funding of commissions for jazz musicians,composers and other organisations. To widen the base of organsational and financial support of jazz by local, state and federal governing bodies, other persons and orgnanisations by seeking sponsorship at every level. To facilitate the work of people who are willing to develop organisational structures to support jazz performance composition, education and documentation. To develop opportunities and co-operate with with other state organisations and with the National Jazz organisations in facilitating national and international jazz programming.
