My Album Review By jazzreview.com
From the moment I put this CD on I was gone. There are times when you review CD’s and they are good and worth keeping, then there are times when you get a CD and it is off the chain. Ray Fuller’s first CD was pretty amazing; it was the best CD that I have heard all year. The tracks on this CD just keep getting better and better, when does it end.
The CD starts of with If You Really Love Me, to hear this beautiful music would definitely make a blind man see. (Sorry Stevie), I was literally singing the words to the song it was very, very nice!Next Weeper’s Thang was a jazzy, funky cut that I had to listen to twice just because I wanted to keep feeling it. I have always been a huge fan of Everett Harp who is the feature saxman on this cut along with Dave Kochanski on keyboards. The chemistry between everyone was unbelievable!Work to Do would make the Isley’s proud, with Phil Perry on vocals this track will bring a smile to your face. Fuller took care of his business when he pulled out this R&B classic, you have to have some kind of guts to take a chance on this, and let me say Fuller has guts. Great job!!!!The other tracks include Spanish Flyer, Speak Brother, Superstar, Naima, Friday, Portuguese Love, She Walks This Earth, Free Spirit, Partido Alto, and a very soulful remix of Speak Brother featuring George Duke. All of these tracks are very worthy!I could keep writing on every track on this album but it would require more time than allowed. If you are a true jazz fan, then you have got to own this CD. It’s hard sometimes for an artist to capture and keep their fans attention on every track, and we don’t really expect them to, however Ray Fuller did just that. Every song was a keeper, and so is this CD. I would let you borrow mine but sorry my brother, you have to get your own.Ray you did the thang!!! Keep it coming and we shall see you in the future holding your own spot.
