If one had asked any of the natives of Foxford Co. Mayo about Kevin Doherty two years ago they would have told you that he was one of a musically gifted family who displayed tremendous talent on the flute.
In fact his brother Tom was perhaps the only one to know of his ambition to play double bass.
Two years later and Kevin is rightly regarded as being one of the best upcoming bass players in the country.
Kevin has always been a dark horse and similarly it is rarely known that he plays a mean saxophone when the occasion demands. He is now in demand by many new groups as a session player when recording and has just finished work on Julie Langans and Verena Commins new CD ‘Fonnchaoi’.
Kevin cites many influences from both the traditional and contemporary styles and these are best heard on tunes such as ‘Mrs. Kenny’s’, ‘The Bucks of Oranmore’ and ‘Voyage pour L’Irlande’ on Ceide's latest album.
