For the first time on February 22nd 1984 Daniel Coxx inhaled, and breathed the precious air of life. That instant set in motion his journey, from a sobbing infant to a gifted adult. Casting his mind back to childhood, Daniel always knew that he had a passion for music. At age six he began writing poems while attending the Luther Thorne Memorial School and by age nine won his first poetry award from that same institution.Daniel’s love for music would indeed seem to grow with his age. However his journey was not without obstacles. When he graduated to the Coleridge and Parry Secondary School at age eleven, this aspiring musician was refused a position in the school’s youth orchestra. To this day, he was never given a reason for his denied admittance. Because of this, Daniel’s father felt obligated to buy him a guitar, since he could always see great potential in his son.Almost immediately, Daniel began to personify his dreams. His naturally soulful voice blended flawlessly with the acoustic chords of the guitar, to create newly composed songs. Taking inspiration from Boyz to Men and Brian McKnight, mature themes such as love and heartbreak were prevalent in most of Daniel’s early writing. At age fourteen Daniel was invited to join a founding a cappella group called Infiniti. By pop music standards Infiniti could be described as a boy band, as they would command the attention of screaming teenaged girls whenever they performed. In 1999, they placed second in the Barbados Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition, but with this initial achievement Daniel struggled to find individuality within the group.Between minds on whether to remain in the band or pursuit a solo career, Daniel chose to do both. In 2001, he entered the National Independence Festival for Creative Arts (NIFCA) competition with Infiniti and as a solo performer. Both performances were successful, as he won two silver awards and gained an opportunity to perform at the exclusive NIFCA Gala.In that same year, he won the Mr. Coleridge and Parry School Pageant and then went on to win the title of Mr. Secondary School Barbados. He also won Best Guitar Student at the Youth Achievement Results Academy under the tutelage of Victor Linton, making 2001 his most accomplished year.Currently Daniel is focused on his up coming album “In the City†which Daniel describes as the struggle. “For me to be me without fear of judgment, to find a space in my mind and in my sprit sometime to be fully aware of whom I am. It’s a reflection of my journey, deepest fears and worst difficulties. A permanent reminder of what is like to fight for individuality.â€
