Bodymovin – DJ Friction & DJ Thomilla
Bodymovin aka Dj Friction & DJ Thomilla are DJs and Producers with high reputation. Within the last 15 years, they have been marked by the the same family background, roots, environment, musical history and influences.
Stuttgart born DJ Thomilla (now living in Berlin) became famous as a HipHop Dj and producer. With „Get Up“ and „Reimemonster“ (released on his very successfull debutalbum Genuine Draft) he landed two instant-Hits of these genre. Further more, Thomilla was rewarded twice with platin for his productions for the Fantastischen Vier (amongst others the hitsingles „Troy“ and „Einfach sein“ were his handwriting)
In the 90’s DJ Friction founded together with Max Herre and Philippe Kayser the Band Freundeskreis. The balance were two albums, one live LP, one Best Of Compilation, golden records, various honours and music awards as well as the call to be one of the most important German bands withihn the last 10 years.
After the millenium both experienced a musical metarmorphoses. At first they transformed, back to the early DJ days, a new wildthing made of Funk, Soul, Disco, HipHop, House, Electro or Miami Bass into the modern times. The end of this manifold spectrum was the landing in the common time. This happened for Thomilla together with Michi Beck as Turntablerocker and for Friction as a solo part. DJ Friction was then a DJ and band support for live and DJ tours of Turntablerocker. The Bodymovin duo finally got formal in the year 2004, after the homonymous clubtour for their last solo albums (Thomilla „Freeze“; DJ Friction „Soulsonic“).
Both of them say, they play musical chess. Tracks such as DJ-Gigs develop step by step. Both of them always find the right answer. With 20 years of DJ expression the visitor of Friction and Thomilla is guided to various different levels, which grow in intensity with the length of the playing time. At the end of the chapter is a valve through which the accumulated energie escapes and lets the crowd collectivly go. At the same time the audience has the assurance that the next climax is not to far.
Bodymovin do not consciously serve any genres, this is also the tenor in the studio. In the beginning single Bodymovin tracks sound like their sets in fast motion, but they also work with hooks, and at the end, they get lost in space. An important character of Bodymovin tracks, is the instrumental composition which they give high importance to. The instruments are played by them selves and they consciously do without obvious effects.
The debut album is finished and you can hear just how unique Bodymovin sounds like. It doesn’t matter if you deal with classified Electro, modern House sound or newish Disco Boogie. When you compare the tracks with the previous solo output of Friction and Thomilla, you soon will get to the result that Bodymovin is the logical essence of a longtime producing career and friendship.
You could also say, that Friction and Thomilla feel very well, somewhere between music for the head and music for the legs. Because that's were the whole body is, with heart and soul. Just Bodymovin!
