Scott Hynds was born and raised in Northern Ireland at a time of great conflict and sectarian hatred. He was born into a protestant family and reared within working class housing estates. The people that made up these neighbourhoods were deeply loyal to protestant history, culture and religion. At an early age hatred was forged in his soul towards his Roman Catholic neighbours from the influence of family and peers. His hatred only intensified through the loss off family members murdered by Roman Catholics. As a young boy his bedroom walls were plastered with posters of protestant terrorists and he aspired to be like them.At the age of 18 he joined the British army while many of the young men of that era, protestant or catholic joined a terrorist organisation. It was only by the providence of God that he didn’t find himself plotting the deaths of innocent people on the streets and countryside of Ulster. While in the British army Scott was introduced to drugs and thus began a nightmare. When Scott left the army at 21 he submerged himself into the clubbing culture in Northern Ireland and after some years of drug abuse he became mentally unwell. He has seen much demonic activity while delusional and at one stage thought his father was sent by Satan to kill him. As a boy and teen he collapsed unconscious through solvent abuse and would sniff petrol, nail varnish remover, melted down boot polish, to get a high. He was nicknamed sleepy at his local drinking den because he was always intoxicated with alcohol. He robbed and stole to feed a gambling habit which lasted over 15 years.
By the time Scott was 28 he was near the end of the road that leads to destruction. He found himself literally in the gutter as he walked the streets looking for cigarette ends, to relieve the nicotine withdrawal. On a Sep day in 1999 after a 2 month binge God almighty called Scott Hynds to repentance in a friends flat. He got down on his knees intoxicated with alcohol and rose up a new creation in Christ Jesus.
Scott had for many years been looking for that something to bring him contentment and peace, at last he had found it in the Prince of Peace the Lord Jesus Christ. God found him and what a joy to be found. With the same fervour Scott had for the world he now had for Christ and felt compelled to tell others about the Salvation of the Lord.Through a man of God, witnesses and the inner witness of Gods Spirit, he heard the call to the ministry of preaching the gospel around the world. As John Wesley said "the world is my parish" and Scott believes this vision has been passed on to him. In the providence of Almighty God Scott had the great Joy of working in the Roman Catholic community with the elderly. He made sure that these old men and women received the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He found this experience overwhelming through the love of his master and rejoices in that Christ can set you free from any bondage including deep hatred.Scott recently returned home to Northern Ireland after a few years in Australia as an itinerant Evangelist and Pastor. The Lord has led Scott to plant a church in his home town of Portadown and Pillar Christian Church(PILLAR has been RAISED to SUPPORT community)belongs to the Assemblies of God in Ireland. You can here his full testimony on online sermons.
