About Me

Hmmm how to sum yourself up in a paragraph. well i am doing my masters in human genetics at the moment so basically i may be the only person you know who knows how to clone people - pretty cool hey? i thought that was a pretty good opening line. other than spending hours in a lab coat, i love chocolate, deep conversations in the early hours, laughing, hugs, challenges, logic, creativity and how Jesus confounded them all, design, problem solving, beautiful views, hanging with my youth girls (Tanya!), South Africa, Disney World (the only place where consumer temple meets childhood fantasy), U2 because they are making a difference where angels fear to tread, imagination, Narnia, questions, random humour, encouraging people, the book of Hebrews in the Bible, poetry by ee cummings and Robert Frost, dinner dates, being engaged... basically anything with the power to brighten my day! but mostly i am passionate about people, especially people that challenge me to think deeply, investigate further and examine myself more closely; also people who are passionate about revolution - i believe the world is ready for overthrow (in the non-weapons-of-mass-destruction kind of way in case this site is ever screened by the FBI). and finally my right-up there list of most-loved super-amazing things...God (all because of You), my fiancé Garth, my family, my awesome friends, youth ministry which is the living testimony of redemption in my life, and all the things i have yet to discover on my journey

My Interests

reading, writing poetry, being outside (basement labs should be banned), science, history, the psychology of myspace, youth leadership, my fiancé, drawing, thinking deep thoughts, pursuing friendships, the meaning of life, evolution and its demise, living the life i was made for, with the One who made it all.

Music:

David Crowder Band, Five Iron Frenzy, Delirious?, U2, Switchfoot, Sanctus Real, OC Supertones, Tree63, Relient K (yes i'll admit it!) and a little bit of Blindside..basically anything that sounds great and has a positive message. long live the "positive" bands - social action is a great way to use your fame for good.

Movies:

Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (should i put johnny depp under "interests"..? ha ha), Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Lord of the Rings. very mixed tastes here - i like a deep profound movie, but i don't get out much.

Books:

so so so many but mainly... anything by CS Lewis (one of the greatest Christian authors of the modern era in my humble opinion), Christy by Catherine Marshall, classics like Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, Mister God This is Anna (read it - it'll change your thinking), The Poisonwood Bible, The Mending Season by Kagiso Lesego Malope (if you grew up on the "right side of the tracks" during apartheid you've got to read her books), anything non-fiction that's history or science related (what can i say i'm a nerd)ooooh and a new 1 you have to read is "Everybody wants to go to Heaven but nobody wants to die" by David Crowder and Mike Hogan - a journey through the history of the soul.

Heroes:

CS Lewis (see above) and anyone who stood for God when faced with challenge - they form the witness cloud. Shelley my youth pastor who is a machine! and those who are tackling everyday obstacles and overcoming themselves as they push the revolution forward..especially my youth girls - it's tough in the real world!
