We Taking Notting Hill 2007 By M.A.S.

About Me

MASQUERADE 2000 AKA M2K, the vision of the legendary MR LINCOLN RAHAMUT.
Having come from a Mas family in Trinidad San Fernando. Rahamut's Mas career started long before Masquerade 2000, with top band of it’s time PERPETUAL BEAUTY from the mid 1970’s until 1991. Towards his end days with the Perpetual Beauty; Lincoln felt he had out grown the band and wanted to start his own mas band. He wanted this new band to be something spectacular, where style and presence would be momentum. Taking the band into the new millennium, Masquerade 2000 would be the love child Lincoln Rahamut and David Brown leashed upon the people of Notting Hill Carnival 1992.
In the band’s first year the band did very well picking up several prizes at the one Costume gala, by 1993 the band had exhaled to new heights, tripling members to almost 250 and making a clean sweep at not only the gala but receiving 1st place for both children’s and adult’s best band on the road title’s. 1993 played a key year and set a new standard in the UK Mas scene.
Masquerade 2000 has gone on to leaps and bounds through the years winning best band titles for 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. In 1997 the band decided it was time to expand its waistline and took on the new name of Masquerade 2000 and Associates incorporating Eclipse Steel Band, Shadmakers Carnival Band, Watford Carnival Band, Luton Carnival Club and also WCK and First Serenade on the road. By 1999 the band had reached a peak and the committee felt the band had become too large to manage so the band reverted back to just being Masquerade 2000 and Shadmakers.
In 1999 a new recruit had joined the band, Paul O’Donoghue was Lincoln’s new young Designer in training in Paul’s first year he shadowed Lincoln picking up new skills and display skills. He assisted in producing many of the individual pieces and also contributed to the King and Queen costumes for that year and also went on to help produce the costumes for The Millennium Dome Opening Ceremony.
The Millennium year...
Lincoln’s dream became a reality the band had lived its life straight into the new Millennium, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 were very trying years for the band as the band was taking on a new style of costuming a new identity and also new members.
Masquerade 2000 felt by this time it was time to unleash a new look to and felt although the name would remain the same we would re-brand ourselves as M2K.
A new chapter...
So M2K was born and in 2004 Lincoln decided it was time to take a back seat and move towards retiring, so the rains of Designer would go to Mr Paul O’Donoghue as Lincoln felt Paul was ready to Front M2K. Paul O’Donoghue went on to produce the band for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and gave the band the new lease of life it needed. M2K almost doubled in members between 2004-2006 Paul was eager to introduce designs that not only children and older adults would love to wear but also teenagers and young adults. He introduced the two piece bathing suit and incorporated it into his designs which went down a treat with the M2K masqueraders.
2007 will be Masquerade 2000s (M2Ks) biggest year in history Masquerade 2000 will be presenting its long awaited theme “AFRICA UNFOLDS” a tribute to the Bicentennial Anniversary of the Emancipation of Slavery.
M2K will be holding our spectacular launch on th 19th May 2007, please check flyer for more information.
