About Me

First off: I'm a Reverend Doktor, Church of the SubGenius (Clench: Church Of The Grand Wazoo). I write literature and music, more music than words. I have over 300 pieces to my name, composed over a period of almost four years. That includes three suites, a couple of larger multi-part works, and a bunch of single page 'vignettes' as I call them. Vignettes are shorter pieces that called to be performed in a sequence of 5 (minimum) to 10 (maximum). I collect anything musical, including over 400 CDs ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Drums & Tuba and Spinal Tap. I have about 15 songbooks, from every Beatles recording to The Rite Of Spring and Hedwig And The Angry Inch. I also own a score of The Black Page No. 2, by Frank Zappa which I obtained via the now no longer existing scores section of Barfko-Swill. I also have a small record collection, from operas to Varèse--yes, I have 'Ionisation'...in three different forms. My favourite musical artists: see the section that talks about music. When it comes to composing, I like to call myself a neo-classical-neo-post-minimalist, meaning I basically write whatever, whether it is good or bad. When not doing that whole mess (or using Ableton Live 5.2 to create weird synth songs or GarageBand to create sample-based songs), I collect bootlegs and concerts. There’s a blog entry somewhere on that. I play several instruments [trombone, tenor sax (amateur/not very good), I can get by on percussion], and cannot sing. In my spare time, I enjoy transcribing lyrics to albums. I've done this for an unreleased 15 minute song by Johnny Unicorn, most of New Attitude by Dirty Projectors, and all of Morning Better Last! by Dirty Projectors. Apparently, I do an okay to good job of doing this.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

In no particular order: Ambrose Bierce, Dante Alighieri, Igor Stravinsky, Bunk Gardner, Buzz Gardner, Negativland, Steve Reich, The Beatles, Roger Waters, Frank Zappa, Amy Sedaris, Mike Nelson, Trace Beaulieu, Joel Hodgson, Douglas Adams, George Orwell, "Bob" or at least Rev. Ivan Stang and/or Philo Drummond.
