About Me

Jim Barbick is a saxophonist, composer/arranger and educator active in Chicago since 1996. He attended DePauw University, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and DePaul University. His main teachers include Randy Salman, Rick VanMatre, Pat Harbison, Peter Ballin and David Bloom. As a student, Jim performed with such notable jazz artists as Randy Brecker, Tim Ries, Jim McNeely, Bob Brookmeyer, Louis Bellson and Ramsey Lewis. As a busy performer in Chicago, Jim has played shows at venues such as the Green Mill, Morse Theater, Hot House, House of Blues, Green Dolphin Street and the Jazz Showcase. He has performed with M13, the Ian Torres Big Band, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, the Big Band of Chicago, the Jazz Members, the Civic Orchestra, Bossa Tres, Chicago Samba, Paulinho Garcia, Eddie Daniels and Ray Charles. Jim has played shows at NBC, the Goodman Theater and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. He also spent over two years touring the country with the Swing band Three Cent Stomp. In addition to performing, Jim is a dedicated music educator presenting workshops, teaching in the Chicago Public Schools and maintaining a private lesson studio.
