Terrie Odabi is an accomplished vocalist and her career spans over 20 years. By the age of 16, she was sneaking to perform in Bay Area clubs and theaters. Terrie was raised in the diverse culture of Oakland California. Her musical experience is as a varied as the area she grew up. She studied classical music for over 20 years. Her teachers included soprano Gwen Brown, Bill Bell and the late great tenor, John Patton. As the lead singer and dancer of the multimedia, multicultural, percussion group D'CuCkoo, Terrie traveled the country engaging and entrancing audiences with D'CuCkoo's tribal grooves. She also was the lead singer and dancer for the renowned percussion group Rythmixx. As the lead singer, she sang in a multitude of languages, such as Latin, Spanish, as well as various African and Middle Eastern dialects. Rythmixx traveled the globe grooving from South America to Asia.
Recently, Terrie has returned to her roots and what she loves best, Jazz, Gospel, Blues, and Soul. At any time you can find Terrie singing with her jazz trio"Forte", praising and worshiping through song at church or slamming down some good ole blues with the Bay Areas own Blues Great, Alvon Johnson. She can also be heard stirring up some soulful sounds with the groove band "Anam Cara", led by the incredeble Violinist, Alison Bailey Streich, or the funky soul band "Sugar Shack" led by Bassist, Justin Helman.
Her vocal range is out of this world. Her range takes you from the depths of the valley with rich blue tones to high notes that ascend toward the heavens. Her vocal style can be described as a cross between Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott and Etta James. She sings with great command and power yet she can deliver a love song with softness and passion. When singing she's known to evoke emotions at will from her listeners. With her magnetic presence and charisma, Terrie is certain to captivate the spirit of her audience. With Terrie now performing in what she considers her natural element, it's safe to say we can expect wonderful things from her.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: The list of my influences go on and on. I think my earliest influence was non other than Aretha Franklin. By the time I was around eight, I couldn't stop listening to the fabtastic Chaka Khan, and the Pointer Sisters. Later in my life as a teenager I fell in love with the pureness of Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. I also loved B.B King, Dinah Washington and Betty Carter. Now I would say my favorite is Diane Reeves.I guess that's why I am not focused on singing in any particular style. I just want to get my point across when I sing a song. If that requires belting it out, I do it. If it requires scatting, moaning, groaning ,whispers I make sure you understand and feel what that song is about.
