Sheila Lopez

Mexican soprano Sheila Lopez started her studies at the University of Zacatecas with the professor Jose Manuel Delgadillo during the period 1995-1999. Later she move to Cabridge, MA and took voice lessons with Elizabeth Anker and Anna Gabrieli at Longy School of Music.Ms. Lopez obtained the National Prize of Youth in Mexico City at the early age of 15. On march of 2003 from 300 contestants, Ms. Lopez received the 2nd prize on the Competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singers of Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona. Along her vocal studies Ms. Lopez has explored a variety of music genres from the early baroque through contemporary music. She interpreted “the voice of God” in Alessandro Scarlatti’s Cain el primo Omicidio and Phoebus in Bach's cantata Phoebus and Pan with the collaboration of Mathew Dirst. Ms. Lopez has performed a variety of Opera roles: Nicoletta in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges. Here voice has been defined as “the most pure and brilliant voice of the season” by the columnist Charles Ward in The Houston Chronicle by her role of Serpetta in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera. On January of 2004 she performed the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. On the last Opera season she performed the role of Mrs. Alan on the Argento’s The Room in a View at the Moores Opera House in the University of Houston. On January of 2006 she performed her role as Fiorilla in Rossini’s master piece Il Turco in Italia. Later on, Ms Lopez interpreted the role of Musetta in la Boheme with Opera in the Heights presented on the Italian Consulate in Houston, TX.She has been performing actively in Mexico chamber music repertoire in the National Museum of Fine Arts, Sala Xochipilli in La Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and Anual Music Festivals in Aguascalientes and Zacatecas. Last semester she presented ‘Love Songs’ by the music composer Juan Luis Enriquez in the Contemporary Music Festival in UTSA in San Antonio. Ms. Lopez also gave numerous performances of the cycle in the Tuesday Recital, Syren Composers Recital and Juan Luis Enriquez Master’s Recital.Ms. Sheila Lopez completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance at the University of Houston under the guidance of Katherine Ciesinski and Cynthia Clayton. Later on, Ms. Sheila interpreted the role of Violetta Valery in Verdi..s masterpiece..La Traviata.. with the aclaimed Tenor Jose Guadalupe Reyes. Currently she is teaching in the Tecnologico de Monterrey and as a voice technique director with the University of Zacatecas Concert Choir.
