From the Persian meaning "child of light".
The name Maggie is also a transliteration of the Greek magos, which is a derivative from Old Persian Magupati. This was the title of a priestly caste and as part of their religion practiced astrology, astronomy and mathematics. And so it is the origin of the word "magic."
