Ola Johansson - guitarsPär Hagström & Cirkus Transmopol first started as an idea of making a conceptual live music performance brought close to the audience. A live show that touches, that is beautiful and bad, and that has a clear focus on the visual and artistic parts of live performing. The idea came to Pär Hagström at a time when he was about to finish theatre studies in Sweden.
- I decided to build up a brand new orchestra from the very start, and I wanted to do it with people I did not know before and about whom I did not have made up any thoughts about in advance, Pär says.In January 2006 Pär Hagström & Cirkus Transmopol performed live for the very first time. A whole lot of shows followed, members left and was replaced. In December 2006 the debut mini-album "we are music" was released and the band performed live in Swedish radio.
Reviewers mention influences as different as Springsteen, Nick Cave, Arcade Fire and Nina Simone. Established music site "it's a trap" writes: "it's an empowering, air-punshing, hip-swaying highway hit that teeters only wee bit precariously on the line of 80's anthem rock". The Swedish magazine "Trots Allt" writes: "Rock, blues, gospel, cabaret, gipsy music...my thoughts several times leads towards when Tom Waits asks for a dance. Pär Hagström is a dynamic and charismatic front figure and writes soul filled songs that I long to get to experience live!"In January 2007 Pär Hagström & Cirkus Transmopol first performed live with the now existing line up. Since then they have managed to sell out the "we are music"-album, touring in Sweden, and also two tours in Germany during which they lived together and performed live every night.
- It's been a fantastic experience to build up a brand new band together with people that I didn't even know when we started, Pär says. The Cirkus Transmopol sound would never have been brought to life if it wasn't for exactly those persons who add their very own personal and musical touch to it all.Decmber Rose is not only the name of the new album - it's also the name of the musical love story which consists of the seven first songs on the album.
Together with an actor friend Pär created the context of the idea which the story of December Rose is based upon. The lyrics of the story describe a love relationship that is no more - where dreams turn into memories and memories turn into dreams. The single "Postcard" is a part of that story: SHE is walking up and down the streets of the town where they both used to live, waiting for HIM to write her a letter. Or at least a post card! It's a long answer to a letter that never where sent. And at the same time just a summer song. And a murder ballad. The B-side "David & Carmenzita" is HIS answer to HER answer to the letter that never where written. The album "December Rose" is recorded in Strawberry Studios on the Swedish country side.
- Having over two months in an unbelievable fine vintage studio filled with all kinds of old instruments and surrounded by the greatest nature where somewhat like a dream, Pär says.
The eight members did most of the recordings live in the studio. The last week Pär and the female vocalist Jenny spent alone in the studio working on the vocal parts.
- It sure wasn't easy to try and create something decent out of all those people's creative minds, and we had some hot, hot discussions along the way, but oh how sweet it all sounds now when we're done!Website: www.myspace.com/cirkustransmopol & www.cirkustransmopol.net
