Music Talks Peace

Our Vision:Music Talks Peace is working towards a society in which people from all cultural backgrounds live together with openness, peace, and respect.Our Mission:Music Talks Peace exists to celebrate cultural diversity and to promote peace-building activities in local communities and abroad. We do this by:1. Organising concerts with musicians and composers from many different cultural and linguistic backgrounds 2. Inviting speakers from various organisations to promote respect for minority cultures in Australia and increase awareness of life in countries that are not at peace 3. Supporting and working together with organisations that help people who have experienced war, conflict, or oppressionAbout Music Talks Peace:Music Talks Peace is an apolitical, non-religous, not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney, Australia. We believe that music has the ability to transcend differences and bring people together regardless of political persuasion, ethnicity, religion, language, or class. Music Talks Peace was born in response to the riots of December 2005, where racial tensions led to violence on the Cronulla beaches. Since being established concerts have been held with performers and speakers representing a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds and nationalities. These concerts have demonstrated that peaceful coexistence and mutual respect is possible even between people whose countries of origin are burdened by conflict. Music Talks Peace aims to expand its activities to community-based projects, initially in the Sydney area and eventually on a wider Australian and international level.Proceeds from Music Talks Peace events go directly towards the "Music Talks Peace-Moving Forward Together in Harmony" Project, a Music Education project run in collaboration with Moving Forward Together (under the auspices of the Alfred Dreyfus Unit of B'nai B'rith NSW). This state-wide project invites students to compose and perform new works inspired by the theme of "Music Talks Peace- Moving Forward Together", encouraging our youth to extend their knowledge of musical cultures existing in Australia.
