About Me
The music band THREE MINUTES IN THE RAIN is established in the early 2004 in Bitola, Macedonia, within the context of the movement named DESKTAUR – the creative force behind the band itself.
THREE MINUTES IN THE RAIN consists of Ron Ripley (guitar and lead vocals), Ivan Kocka (bass guitar and back vocals) and Ian Straaf (drums and back vocals), all born in 1984 in Bitola. These three people, knowing each other all their lives, through school etc., in the early teenage years began playing in various bands, until 2003.
Late in the summer in 2003, they met Mark Purpose(keyboard, coauthor) born 1979 in Bitola, who had years of experience in stage and studio work, and who had considered working as a producer, having already worked as a musician. That meeting showed crucial in reassembling the band in its present form. That same year the band started working to create their first serious author material, part of which was finished in the middle of 2004, when the band started performing in local clubs. That lasts until the middle of 2005, when the band felt the need, beside performing live at smaller local festivals, clubs and radio stations, to expand their own concept and to transform their frame of existence from “just music†to what the band and their friends lately call “industrial pop cultureâ€, a concept now containing graphic illustration of music, creating animated videos based on their music and primarily intended for live performances, photography and other segments of “design of lifeâ€.
In the summer 2006, after final changes in their music, the trio, along with Mark Purpose entered the studio to record their work.
Their approach to the music is fully constructed along with strong and authentic outfit. Following the steps of the industrial pop culture, the band has passed the borders of the possible and the habits. THREE MINUTES IN THE RAIN have been making urban art in the fields of music and design, seen trough their own filter of aesthetics. Singing about the heroic acts of the common/ordinary people trough the everyday events, by maximal and brave simplification of the elementary arrangement techniques, and by using simultaneously the most interesting, original influential inspirations and movements in the history, such as pop art, art punk, new wave, post punk and cubism, the band has set the idea for unveiling and emphasizing the nonessential details and moments of which the everyday life is made, and zooming thereon in a heroically structured substance composed of sound and design, as its ideological objective and basis. With its already recorded, but not yet released first compact conceptual and live material titled "HERO OF OUR TIME", THREE MINUTES IN THE RAIN, with its live performances at several festivals, its club gigs and a support to PLACEBO, has climbed fast to the upper spots of the alternative radio top lists, also three wins on the "noisehead" chart (GOODMAN & BIGGeRMAN 1st place, JUMPING OVER THE BOARD 1st place, THANK YOU FOR THE HOLIDAYS 1st place) in a competition with 6000 other songs and imposed itself as the new face of the industrial indie pop culture on the music scene.a
