About Me

What can I say? I'm 45, a husband and father of 3 great kids. My wife is the smartest person I know, but please don't tell her that...I work professionally as a technical trainer. I have been the technical editor on 22 books, and have spoken at a few IT conferences. I have certifications from Microsoft, IBM, CompTIA and a defunkt Linux outfit, as well as from a company that used to be called Compaq.I graduated from Salina Central High School in Salina, Kansas, in 1981. I was involved with Football, Track & Field, and Theater.I attended Wichita State Unversity, and graduated from there with a Bachelors degree in General Studies. My main area of focus in college was a combination of Computer Science, Speech Communication, Journalism and Business. This combination seems to have served me well in my current career.I now live in Lawrence, Kansas. My wife is affilated with the University of Kansas. I am nurturing a healthy fanatacism for KU football and basketball.I am a guitar player. A few years ago, after 20 plus years of playing mediocre axes, I decided it was time to buy a decent guitar. I started shopping for Gibson Les Paul's, but became discouraged by the price. I told me wife that for that kind of money, I can put together a woodshop and build my own damn guitar, and she, a mechanical engineer, was very supportive. She likes power tools, too. I'd call myself a luearning hobbyist luthier.I have a little computer based home studio. I have a fairly complete little home studio setup, all digital, with some nice software (fully licensed!) like Propellerhead's Reason 3, and Digidesign's ProTools M-Powered edition 7. I like to record my own stuff.Someday I hope to get into the world of narration. I have used my voice as a tool in my work for many years, as a trainer, and host to radio and television shows.I took a shot at doing stand-up comedy when I was a kid, and have contemplated putting together 20 minutes of new stuff. With three kids, there is no shortage of new ideas.I am a fan of science fiction and fantasy novels and movies.

Stupid moments

Making decisions to move forward

Creativity is a purpose in itself. I figure you have choices in life, you either build things or you destroy things, and an ironic truth is that both can exist simultaneously, and with good reason. I...
