JazzBo - S E R I O U S . H I T S O U N D . F R O M . B E R L I NJazzBo are devoted to the Jamaican ska-jazz of the 60s – a kind of music that changed music history as a forerunner of reggae and British ska. Today 60s Jamaican ska-jazz is part of the cultural world heritage and bearing worldwide sympathy.
JazzBo belong to a few bands playing ska-jazz in a quite unspoilt but individual form – an exception in Europe's ska scene. JazzBo stand out not only due to the decade long jazz-ska experience of the horn section and the virtuosity and presence of all the musicians, it is also because of the exceptional concept:
JazzBo are a five-man combo – playing strictly unplugged. The result is the true sound of ska-jazz: rough, tight and groovy.
band history
In 1997 five Berlin musicians from the bands Yebo, Engine 54 and Time Tough united as JazzBo. Later, musicians from the Skampis and Wood-In-Di-Fire joined the band. Also, there are close ties to Mother's Pride, the Butlers, Lions Club and to bands from the New Orleans jazz, new jazz and mod scene.
In 1999 JazzBo released the first records, 7†and 12†("Garagesound X", Monkey Business 1999), some tracks appeared on compilations, and in 2004 the Madrid Liquidator label released the CD and LP "Black Friday".
Two years later, in 2006, JazzBo again developed their musical concept further with the latest CD "Born Blue" (Liquidator 2006):
With "Born Blue" JazzBo now present more own compositions and show deepened influences from other musical genres like calypso or New Orleans jazz. But still there is continuity in view of the strict unplugged, combo concept and the dominance of interpretations of jazz classics as well as (rather unknown) ska standards.
Although there are now three long players available, JazzBo are still foremost a live band, enjoying the interaction on stage and between audience and band members: in clubs as well as at private events or huge festivals.
