"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." ~ Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington on November 27, 1942. His given name at birth was Johnny Allen, but he was later renamed James Marshall. He died in London, England on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27.
He is widely recognized as the greatest and most influential guitarist of all time. Some may argue against this subjective statement, but the fact remains that Jimi is and always will be the pivot between all guitar playing that came before and that came after him.
Before he burst onto the scene as a solo artist, he spent several years as a sideman backing up such musical luminaries as Slim Harpo, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Ike and Tina Turner, Little Richard, and the Isley Brothers.
In 1966, he was referred to Chas Chandler, who flew him to London and united him with bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell to form the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
