Rise N’ Shine officially formed in 2006. Before forming a solid band, the pieces had to slowly come together. Issac Frosto (Bloodshot Ize) and Adam Luft (Raw Jawz) had been collaborating musically for years with fellow poet Dustin Fox (Fox) and future Rise N’ Shine guitarists Eric Woodruff (woody) and bassist Chris Sanders (Sanders). They produced a number of conscious organic hip hop albums on Orcas Island throughout their teenage years. As time progressed, and the boyz became men, they ventured in different directions. Adam Luft and Issac Frosto were doing hip hop duets over vinyl in 2005 and wanted to incorporate a live band. The very first noise maker they brought into the mix was Kurtis Parsons, a fellow musician who traveled with Dustin Fox to live poet conferences across the country. They knew he had a beat on the djembe and they wanted to transfer that onto the kit. Rise N’ Shine’s first show was in Seattle at a hip hop venue where Kurtis dropped a beat for their last two songs. When it came time to fill the needed guitarists they chose long time musical collaborators, Eric Woodruff on lead guitar and Chris Sanders on bass.
Once their sound was heard with Lead Vocals Raw Jawz, accompanying MC Blood Shot Ize, Lead Guitarist Woody, Bassist Sanders, and Drums Kurdy, the ball started rolling. Rise N’ Shine brings a very unique mix of reggae, roots, groove, funk, rock, punk and punk rock, and hip hop, their sound has brought crowds from all shapes, sizes, and musical preferences. Once venues started hearing Rise N’ Shine and seeing the talent brought to the stage, shows have been getting booked nonstop. All band members have been strongly dedicated to RNS, however, many members had already been working with each other on various projects and in other bands. Over the years Rise N’ Shine has shaped and shifted to get the most potentially unique sound. Members have changed positions in the band, taken brakes, and even a couple stepped away to follow their own personal ambitions.
In August 2008, Rise N’ Shine released their first studio album consisting of Raw Jawz, Kurdy, Woody, and Sanders. As of 2009, Rise N Shine consists of 5 good reasons to experience live music like you have never experienced before. Lead vocals still belongs to Raw Jawz. Purdy Kurdy stepped up to the noise makers and vocals, Sanders on the bass, Woody on lead guitar, and the newest drum kit scholar reigning from Jersey, Bryan McCaffrey, a.k.a. The Dirty Jersey.
All members are chosen long term Islanders. In the last 3 years Rise N’ Shine has gained a strong following originating in the San Juan Islands and extending through the Pacific Northwest. Rise N’ Shine is running three years strong, with a healthier enthusiasm than ever before. With over a hundred and fifty performances in nearly fifty venues, this band has the potential to cover the globe while inspiring and uplifting humanity through music.
