Blending the talents of, well, DJ Talent (Master Turntablist And German Folk/Disco/Jazz/Drum & Bass Fusionist) and DJ Taste (International Musical Hobo), The Undertwins were formed out of the remains of synchronized swimming trio Fire Under Water, starting their DJ careers on a whim that would soon be so much more.
Putting together a homemade DJ station anchored by a neighbor's flimsy record player, the ladies became regulars at Radio Shack and learned the secrets of many miles of wiring and a plethora of adapters. A yard sale set of speakers and two '70s amps later, they had begun their grueling training period in earnest, transitioning the old-school way and embracing a new love of analog. Thus, like nothing modern DJ-ing had seen before, The Undertwins were born.
Today, their impressive and slightly insane mixture of 25-cent used records, modern dance beats, Russian folk ballads, and retro hits encompassing everyone from Sammy Davis Jr. (Junior) to Dinah Shore make them a standout among DJs across the state. They've acquired two turntables and a snazzy new mixer (DJ cheating, really, but they'll live with it), and The Undertwins sound has now evolved to... something more unique than you'll ever hear anywhere else and probably far more entertaining than what you've already heard. It's the opposite of everything, but very rarely an actual thing. And that approach has netted them regular gigs at Echo Park's The Brite Spot and Highland Park's legendary Mr. T's Bowl, as well as additional shows across the region. Catch them before they get too big for their headphones.
