real editor best profile tools If you were going to map the musical origins of Perse, you’d need a
downtown street map, a highway guide and some local knowledge about
quarter sections and small town landmarks.
Perse brings listeners into a rustic state of easy comprehension only
to throw them back into the chaos of urban culture. Ranging from ambient
instrumental to pop to folk to spoken word to beat boxing and guitar
ripping rock, the band is like its members’ sometimes rural, sometimes
urban upbringing.
The band formed in Winnipeg in 2006, when Eryn Wynd and brothers Robin
Bryan and David Bryan joined up with Aaron Johnston to explore a
diverse group of other song writers and to work on the songs they were
writing at the time. Perse has played dozens of shows, mostly with
originals, and is now preparing a debut release, an EP titled "Powerlines
and Pigeons, Prairies and Pastures."
With four songwriters in the band, a typical Perse show ranges across
several styles in any given set, but with the juxtaposition of rural and
urban themes as a common thread. Perse members maintain their
countryside upbringing with an honesty and sincerity that is important for
urban or any music today.
Perse is planning a CD release party in September followed by a tour of
the east shortly after.
