About Me

Serving as the Executive Director of Authentic LA, I hold many responsibilities in carrying out the purposes of this discipleship ministry. I have helped organizations such as the Ascending Lights Leadership Network, Lake Avenue Community Foundation, and Harambee Ministries develop mentoring programs. Born and raised in the LA area, I have a heart and passion for mentoring. My doctoral research in educational psychology at USC was centered on multimedia, learning strategies, mentoring organizations, and small group dynamics. As a Mexican-American and a graduate of Azusa Pacific University and Fuller Theological Seminary, I am committed to promoting academic initiatives both inside and outside of the Church. I also founded the Renaissance Society during the winter of 2004, born out of a desire to encourage, educate, and network Christian leaders for the glory of Jesus Christ.

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !

My Interests

I'm trying to make a positive difference in Los Angeles, that's where my heart is. I am also trying to fulfill one of my life's missions, which is to lead THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST MEDIOCRITY. I cannot forget to mention that I have a passion for the sport of boxing.

I'd like to meet:

Those who share any of my growing list of interests. I'm here in LA, so if you have an event going on, let me know and I will try to check it out. Also, if you are interested in learning more about house churches send me a message. Just for the record…house churches are also known as New Testament churches (which is the phrase that I prefer to use), organic churches, simple churches, or discipleship as it was modeled by Jesus & His Apostles...not to mention the Early Church for that matter. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in potentially joining a house church. I am also more than happy to meet with leaders who want to partner in establishing discipleship/mentoring programs or in activities that promote academic excellence. Music:

I've got to listen to something when I'm driving in LA traffic, for hours at a time. Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Reggae, and Classical. Does sports talk radio count? If so, count AM 570...Jim Rome & Petros Papadakis.

Movies:

The Matrix, Tombstone, and just about any movie that features Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Bill Murray, Al Pachino, or Rodney Dangerfield. Documentaries are cool sometimes.

Television:

Shows on: The History Channel, HBO, C-SPAN, MTV, Comedy Central, and ESPN.

Books:

The books that I enjoy are the Bible and the biographies of successful leaders from the past. Through the literary group that I lead, The Renaissance Society, I have been able to promote effective leadership and healthy ministry ethics through such readings. I also have diverse interests in fields ranging from the history of boxing to military strategy through the use of Special Forces. In addition to this, I currently hold subscriptions to The Ring, Cigar Aficionado, and Cigar Magazine.

Heroes:

Well, there is Jesus, then there are my role models: Joshua, David, Paul, Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, Robert Banks, Roland Allen, John Wesley, C. S. Lewis, Reinhold Niebuhr, Clark Pinnock, Billy Graham, Walt Disney, Edward James Olmos, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr., Cornel West, Thomas Sowell, Bill Cosby, Peter Drucker, Laura Schlessinger, Drew Pinsky, Teddy Atlas, Vince Lombardi, Joe Paterno, George S. Patton, Winston Churchill, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, & Benjamin Franklin to name few...and ordinary people handling their business.
