Little Tiger

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm an extroverted introvert whose mental existence is reminiscent of James Thurber's "Walter Mitty."I'm also an ex-newspaper journalist and I've got the irreverent, sarcastic attitude that goes along with that.Currently, I'm writing a book called "Little Tiger." It's the saga of my mother's family as they coped with the Japanese occupation of Korea and Manchuria, then the first year living under communism in North Korea (a tense situation for unapologetic capitalists like they were and still are), and the subsequent Korean War.

For some of my short stories and artwork, go here: http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/maenoon/homepage.html

You can also find me on Twitter (search for "SpewHari") and Facebook (search for my pen name: "Maureen Pierce").

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Other cantankerous skeptics. (And, by the way, that heading above this entry - put there by MySpace, not me - should really say "Whom" I'd Like to Meet. Hey, I'm an editor. I can't turn it off.)

Turning Japanese (I really think so)

I've always been torn between my parents' American and Korean cultures. And, although I'm a mixed breed, I often think of myself as being predominantly White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, which I know is a ...

Dateline: Washington D.C.

We recently took our kids to DC and I had a few political epiphanies while there. First of all, government buildings are boring boxes. If I were in charge, they would reflect the purpose of the b...

The Mangroomer

Why are so many of the gifts advertised for men so absolutely lame? I don't want to buy my husband a tie or a golf cart caddy or a deluxe charging station for cell phones. Boring. He's not a boring ma...

Art Show

Yesterday I went to the reception for my local art show. In 30 minutes I learned some valuable lessons that I never learned from my art professors:1. I am charging waaaay too little for my painting. (...

Election Afterthoughts

For the record, I'm a Libertarian. I'm not one of those gun-toting, pot-smoking survivalists either. Many Libertarians are nice, sane, sober people. Honest.Anyway, a few thoughts about elections. I di...

End of an Error

Wall Street is in flames. The housing market is in the dumps. Christmas displays went up in September. We're having freaky weather in southeastern Pennsylvania... If I were the superstitious sort, I'...

Of Elmo and Santa Claus

Yesterday, my daughter Kira, 12, gave me an update on the three-headed clay pot she is making in art. As she was working on one of the heads, she remarked to her friend Mary, "This is starting to look...
