is a contemporary Gospel stage play about a family going in different directions of their lives, who are brought together by a grandmother’s faith and belief in the power of prayer. Through her observations and belief in change, “Mother Pearl†corrects the mistakes her family has made.
After the death of her husband, Pearl is convinced to move up north and live with her daughter Renee along with her husband Walter and her two children, Regina and Ricardo. As Pearl reunites with her family, she recognizes the separation that has occurred in the family and begins to open the family’s eyes to the things they have overlooked.
Renee is a hospital administrator that has been recently promoted to a senior position and the Board of Directors. Because of her position, she maintains enormous responsibilities and is constantly in demand. Because of this, she works 6 days a week including Saturday, and is frequently inaccessible to her children.
Walter is an account and handles the finances of several high-income individuals. Because he must be accessible to his clients when financial matters occur, he has frequently canceled plans and special occasions with his family and son to be available to his clients.
Regina is 16 years old and has fallen into a pattern of dating older men. Without guidance from her mother and father, she is making the wrong choices and at risk for being sexually manipulated. Her current boyfriend is 32 years old, and neither her mother nor her father is aware of their relationship or the age difference.
Terence is Regina’s current boyfriend who is 16 years older than her.
Ricardo is 17 years old and has begun associating himself with the “wrong†crowd. Because his father does not spend time with him, and is too busy to notice the company he keeps, he finds allegiance with a group of inner-city teens who refer to themselves as the “Mission Boysâ€. Their “mission†includes drug dealings, armed-robberies and contract killings.
“Sin†(nickname for Sincere)is the leader of the “Mission Boysâ€
Rev. Davis is the pastor of Mt. Zion Methodist Church of which the Williams family has not attended in over 3 years. After relocating to her family’s home, Pearl solicits the help of Rev. Davis to help bring the family back to church.
